The Ides of March

Before his assassination on the Ides of March, Julius Caesar famously had several bad omens. His wife, Calpurnia, warned him not to go to the Senate, but she was unsuccessful, and Caesar was killed. The story is repeated in a scene in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, which is the basis for this painting.
