San Jacinto Monument

The Battle of San Jacinto was a decisive Texan victory over Mexico in 1836 during the Texas Revolution. To honor the eighteen-minute battle, construction began a century later on the San Jacinto Monument, shown in this aerial photograph. Completed in 1939, it is the world’s tallest masonry column.
