Rosenwald Schools

Philanthropist Julius Rosenwald founded thousands of schools for African Americans around the Southeastern United States. A Rosenwald School in Ashley County, Arkansas, is shown in this 1924 photograph. Each building was designed with large, spacious windows to take advantage of natural light.
