The Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress opened in 1897 and is an architectural masterpiece. This stereoview photo was taken the next year inside the library’s Great Hall and shows one of two torch-bearing statues inside the room. They were designed by Phillip Martiny, who moved to America from France in 1878.
