Fisk University

Fisk University in Nashville is the second oldest HBCU in Tennessee and was founded as Fisk School in 1866. The institution used old military barracks in its earliest years, which are shown in this photograph. Within months the school has almost a thousand students, and the campus moved in 1876. In 1930, Fisk became the first African American university accredited in the South.
