Charles Carroll of Carrollton was born in 1737 in Maryland. His family was Roman Catholic, and Charles emerged as an advocate of Independence. He was the only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence. After the Revolution, he served as a senator. Before he passed away at the age of 95 in 1832, he was the last surviving signer of the Declaration.
